Many mineral supplements are made from chemicals and are not natural so one should be aware of this. The demand for these however, seems to have been on the upswing as more and more jump into the bandwagon of talking daily supplements. One wonders however, if so many chemicals going into the body is a good thing or not.
It is a fact that normal food particles are ore easily absorbed by our body than chemical vitamin minerals. The industry is constantly striving to create products that are more easily processed by the body and therefore more beneficial. Every now and then the industry comes up with a new ‘more bio-available’ form of a vitamin or mineral. One of the measures that have been taken to overcome the problem is to combine other bio-friendly elements in the chemical vitamins so as to enhance the absorption capacity of the body. For examples, iron gluconate is something that is better absorbed by the body than plain iron.
For the body to absorb the amount it needs, the amount in the mineral supplement has to be a lot more than what it would be in its natural form. This in turn leads to problems concerning consumption of toxic levels of particular nutrients. For this reason it is better to take professional advice form health professionals instead of blindly following TV advertisements and having too many supplements. One should, however, be aware that the industry is constantly improving and developing better and newer combinations of mineral vitamin supplements.
One way that could facilitate better absorption is by using yeast to culture the raw materials that are used. Yeast gets completely digested so the required nutrients are more easily absorbed by the body. This type of supplements is called ‘food state’.
A lot of what we need as supplements has got to do with the kind of diet we follow. There is no doubt that it is far more preferable for a person to obtain the nutrients that they require from their food rather than by taking supplements, wherever possible. During certain periods it may be necessary for a person to take mineral vitamin supplements on a temporary basis but their long term use is not recommended for a number of the supplements that are currently available.
